Ludum Dare 22 and future of Abandoned

Last December I created a game for Ludum Dare, a competition in which you need to create a game in less than 48 hours. The results were posted yesterday, and it turns out my entry, Abandoned, won 2nd place out of over 700 games! Really exciting with the results, and ready to continue development on the game now that I have some more free time.

Abandoned Level

I intend to continue working on Abandoned and release the full game later in the year (hopefully in a few months from now?). I’m not entirely sure what I’ll be developing it in, but I’d love to eventually create an iOS version. Currently I’ve been learning Unity and slowly making progress on porting the game to that, but I’m also considering developing it in Flash first (what it’s currently made in) and then once it’s complete, porting the full game to iOS.

We shall see! Either way, I think it’s going to be awesome.

  1. You can just port it to iOS using adobe air :) I think that will be easier :) than using Unity :)

Pretty good amount of polish for a 48 hour LD compo game. very well done. I can’t wait to see what more levels looks like.

You’d be better suited to use a program like Multimedia Fusion 2 for porting this to iOS. It’s designed for 2D games, and there are exporters for iOS, Flash, Python, Android (Beta), and XNA (Beta) that you can use to publish your games on a wide variety of platforms.

Potentially, however Multimedia Fusion looks a lot like Game Maker to me, and I find it really difficult to work in IDE’s like that, that don’t allow me to dig right in and code whatever I want in a language such as C# (which Unity allows). I’m not too fond of working without code, or with a language such as GML, when I can work with something like C#, AS3, etc. Which is why, I think, I’d probably go for Unity or the Adobe Air wrapper to get the game on iOS.

That said I don’t know a ton about Multimedia Fusion, so I may have a misconception as to what it actually is and how it works.

One of the coolest flash games I have EVER played. I can’t believe it was made in 48 hours! I will definitely be on the lookout for the full version.

Congratulations from Germany for the second place and for a really nice game! Just played it and looking forward to the full version. Please don’t make it smart phone only, because I’m living in the stone age. ;)

Good job! Abandoned really tied me to the keyboard instead of concentrating on my college paper. Besides the game-functionality and graphics I really liked the short Text-fractions. They really kept me going.
